What Is It About This Pattern That Makes It So Calming?
Given the situation of the world in the last year, I’ve given some serious thought to the perfect sort of project for times of stress or when you just want some crochet meditation. This has been the most entertaining project I’ve worked on during this turbulent year!

Here are some of the things I believe you’ll like about this block stitch blanket:
• Rather than inserting your hook into a precise stitch, the boxed block stitch allows you to place your hook in a broad region, which is much easier. It’s quite simple to develop a beautiful rhythm and progress at a steady pace with this stitch.
• Color-shifting yarn adds to the fun. It’s always interesting to watch how the next color in a skein will play out in my project, and it’s motivated to see a design through to the conclusion. The Lion Brand Mandala Tweed Stripes seen here is very unique since each color part is made up of two distinct colors of yarn twisted together.
• You can finish anytime you like. How’s that for command!? Ha. Because this blanket is crocheted in a square with the block stitch, you can stop anytime you’re satisfied with the size. You don’t have to do much preparing ahead of time if you want a backseat blanket or a king size bedspread.

Level of Competence
Perhaps the preceding bullets make it obvious, but this is a really simple crochet blanket design. This boxed block stitch crochet blanket will be a vacation for you if you can single crochet, double crochet, and work in the round!
If you’re still working on your crochet pattern reading skills, the step-by-step stitch instruction teaches all you need to know for the main body of this blanket.
On a white board, many colors of Lion Brand Feels Like Butta yarn and Lion Brand Mandala Tweed Stripes yarn are spread.
The Yarn Used to Create a Gradient Look
I’d been wanting to try the Lion Brand Mandala Tweed Stripes version for a while, but I knew I’d want to combine it with a solid to tone it down. Lion Brand Feels Like Butta is one of my favorite blanket yarns (after all, who wouldn’t want to be enveloped in butter?) It’s also fairly comparable in thickness to Mandala Tweed Stripes.
We obtain a little bit of color popping out from the neutral canvas by using Mandala Tweed stripes in the color “Cat’s Eye” for the single crochet/chain rows of the boxed block pattern and Feels Like Butta for the double crochet rows. I really like how the tiny bright stripes give a rainbow impression without being overly garish. Wouldn’t this be a wonderful present for a rainbow baby? (Like my adorable new nephew, seen below!)

There are a plethora of possible yarn substitutes.
To crochet a Prism boxed block stitch blanket, you can use any two yarns. I’d want to attempt it with chunkier yarn or solid colored stripes. The most crucial consideration when selecting yarn is to ensure that your two fibers are extremely close in thickness.
The left swatch below shows how different Mandala Tweed Stripes in the color “Cat’s Eye” looks when mixed with white rather than grey as shown in the main sample above. To produce a more delicate gradient, the swatch on the right employs Lion Brand Basic Stitch and Ferris Wheel. Ferris Wheel is available in some extremely interesting color combinations that would look great in this design. (You can see them all here!)
